    Wake me up…..

Eyes wide open, yet seeing nothing

    Mind working, yet thinking nothing

    Tired rituals play on repeat

    Never new, rarely different

    Numbingly automatic.

    Stifled and occupied without meaning

    Volumous tasks of vacant emptiness

Burning inside, fighting to get out

    Searching for a place

    Summoning the strength.

    Distracted and thoughtful

    Patience absent,

    Dreaming, simmering

    Eager to try…..

    Desperate to feel…..

    Wake Me Up!
I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.

Wow! I have spent many, many hours trying to describe that feeling that I know so well. It's pretty difficult. The only word I can usually think of is numb. You did such a good job. This is the only poem I've come across that describes this feeling. Hopefully you aren't in a situation where dissociation is necessary...at least not constantly. I agree with jezabel 100%...it's haunting, and it's definitely beautiful.
